Tonight’s matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Washington Wizards is being largely prefaced by the conversation of Kevin Durant’s free agency in 2016. That’s the big picture conversation, but if we’re talking about this specific game, there’s an electrical elite point guard battle that will be taking place between Russell Westbrook and John Wall.
In an interview leading up to tonight’s game, Wall gave some quick analyses of his fellow top point guards and what it takes to defend them. Wall’s list included Steph Curry, Damian Lillard, Derrick Rose, Chris Paul, Kyrie Irving, and of course, Russell Westbrook.
Wall and Westbrook make for one of the most exciting duels because of their unique speed and athleticism. The kind of energy needed to face Westbrook is probably most inherent in Wall in terms of his activity. He’s also arguably the best defender out of that group of elite point guards, but Wall clearly respects and embraces the challenge of going against such a wide array of talent at his position.
