John Wall had surgery on both of his knees after the Washington Wizards regular season in order to repair deposits that were holding him back throughout the season. Despite his injuries, Wall still had an all-star year, but failed to lead the Wizards to the Playoffs, despite most of it being out of his own hands. The injured Wizards limped their way to the end of the regular season and weren’t really able to get to the peak performance they did just last year, which led them to the 2nd round of the NBA Playoffs in 2015.
While Wall is resting and watching these NBA Playoffs in hopes of returning to the Wizards in October for training camp, it is expected he won’t be ready for the Team USA training camp this summer. According to Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post:
Wall isn’t expected to participate in Team USA’s training camp this summer and might not be ready for start of Wizards camp.

With John Wall not even expected to be return to the Wizards in time for training camp, it’s understandable why he’ll be missing the 2016 Rio Olympics this year. Wall will be the 2nd point guard to not attend the camp that was invited, the first being Chris Paul. With Wall and Paul both expected not to play for Team USA this summer, only 4 point guards remain in contest to make the team, Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard, Mike Conley and Kyrie Irving. With Chris Paul also endorsing Kyle Lowry to be added to the list, the amount of point guards attending the camp could grow, but for now, those 4 will be fighting for the spots to play for Team USA in 2016. For now, the most important thing is for Wall to get the rest he needs and get back in shape for the regular season for the Wizards.
