Washington Wizards point guard John Wall has played a lot of regular-season NBA games — 470, to be precise. In Wall’s eyes, none of those 470 games compare to tonight’s matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Wall tells Candace Buckner of the Washington Post:
“I’ve been in some big (regular season) games before,” Wall said Saturday night after the 105-91 win over the New Orleans Pelicans, “but I don’t think one is bigger than this one.”
After a rocky start tot he season, the Wizards have found their groove; their 17-4 post-Christmas record is the best in the NBA. Currently, the Wizards sit at third in the East, behind the Cavaliers and Celtics.
Tonight’s game against the Cavs is a huge deal for Wall and the Wizards for good reason; a win (or at the very least a competitive game) tonight would show the world that the Wizards are for real. If they can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best team in the Eastern Conference, they’ll be sending a message to the rest of the league, a message that says: “This winning streak is no fluke, watch out for us come playoff time.”
