The Washington Wizards are one of the most fun teams to watch in the entire NBA right now. Under the coaching of Scott Brooks and their uptempo play thanks to superstar point guard John Wall, Washington has turned their season around after a disappointing start and continue to climb up the Eastern Conference standings, currently sitting at fifth with a 25-20 record.
Everything is clicking here at the midway point of the season for the Wiz as Otto Porter has suddenly emerged as a premier sniper, Markieff Morris is finally playing at the level we all know he’s capable of, and Bradley Beal has fought off his injury woes, for the most part, thus far this season.
But still, we all know the lifeline of this franchise comes from the guard tandem of John Wall and Bradley Beal who share the backcourt and set the right tone night in and night out. They will only go as far as this exciting young duo will take them.
After a huge victory last night in a matchup against the Boston Celtics that had some extra headlines attached to it, Wall had some strong words for CSN’s Chris Miller and again asserted that he and Beal are currently the best backcourt in the NBA:
“I think we’re the best backcourt in the league when we’re going. We’re both playing at a high level right now. We’re staying healthy. We’re a tough tandem to deal with,” he said.
“Any given moment I can get it going, he can get it going. And the one thing I trust about us and I love about us is we don’t shy away from getting that guy the ball when they’ve got it going. We’re still locked into the game because that guy is going to draw so much attention, he’s going to find the other guy. So when we’re rolling, we’re good.”
“Good” would be a severe understatement. Wall notched 27 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in last night’s contest while Beal exploded for 31 himself. While whether the Wizards possess the NBA’s best backcourt is certainly up for debate, Wall is absolutely right about the damage he and Beal can do to an opposing defense.
It seems Wall and the Wizards love being doubted and flying under the radar, as Washington continues to be overlooked. With the Kentucky product playing the best basketball of his career and Beal scorching nets from distance and remaining healthy, this Wizards team has all of a sudden turned into a force no one wants to see on their schedule come playoff time.
