The director suffered a stroke and remained on life support for two weeks prior. “It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off of life support today. This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors,” says Singleton’s family in a statement according to People.
UPDATE: According to a new report by Variety, John Singleton will be taken off of life support today. This comes after false reports that the Poetic Justice director had died earlier today.

Despite conflicting media reports, John Singleton’s publicist confirms the director remains on life support.
On the morning of April 29, news outlet Fox 4 Kansas City reported the death of Singleton following a public offer of condolences from film critic Shawn Edwards. Following the news of his death, representatives of Singleton relayed the message that he remains in a coma.
TMZ reports John Singleton’s publicist says the director is still alive yet in a medically induced coma and non-responsive. Singleton initially checked himself into the hospital on April 24, complaining of pain in his leg.
