Well, that didn’t take long!
On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Ray Vaughn fired back at Joey Bada$$ with a new track called “H—e Era.” The uptempo production from Tariq and Ohgoddc offers a runway for the Long Beach native to fire back at a few of the jabs Joey Bada$$ threw during his recent Red Bull Spiral Freestyle with Big Sean and his label mate, Ab-Soul.
“Baby teeth, you ain’t even got a plaque yet/Fact check, we wanna see the numbers like a math test/Run, Joey, run, we gon’ aim it at your backpack/Real shit, you should act more, you should rap less,” Ray Vaughn raps. “Every verse ass, what that BBL cost?/West Coast get in season, now you heavy on the salt (What?)/Catch him at the Staple Center, bet you I’ma spark (What?)/Goofy, don’t let Power get your TV turned off.”
“H—e Era” is the latest track to drop in an ongoing battle between Joey Bada$$ and a collection of artists from across the West Coast. The back-and-forth kicked off in January with the release of the Brooklyn MC’s “Ruler’s Back” video.
“Too much West Coast d—k lickin’/I’m hearin’ n—s throwin’ rocks, really ain’t s—t sticking,” he rapped, referencing a classic Jay-Z bar.
In response, several rappers, including Az Chike, Daylyt and Ray Vaughn, have responded with tracks like “Whatx2,” “Backpack” “Yhrr” and “Crashout Heritage.” Joey Bada$$ replied to those call outs with a verse of his own during the Big Sean-led Red Bull Spiral Freestyle. Over the course of his verse, Joey Bada$$ fired several shots at Daylyt and Ray Vaughn.
“I ain’t gotta lose no sleep to break Daylyt/Shouldn’t give you n—s time of day/But f—k it, shine a light on ’em, I’mma light Ray/Now how can I say this all in a nice way?/If you need the attention, tell Top he gotta pay,” he rapped. “Look, I said what’s a lil’ pup to a K9? It’s game time/I ain’t green on the defensive, I’m on my Draymond/Empty out the clip on ya whole clique when I aim mine/I’m catchin’ collaterals, hit you all at the same time.”
