When Joel Embiid was drafted by the Philadelphia 76’ers. Everybody was rubbing their hands just thinking about the possible dominance a partnership of Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid could have.
But, like Noel. Joel Embiid has been forced to miss his first season as a pro. But what’s seemingly different about the two, is their work ethic.
According to Philly.com, Joel Embiid is reportedly 300 pounds and is being terribly unproductive.
Embiid has a weight issue. Although the Sixers wouldn’t disclose his weight, a source said he’s close to 300 pounds after being 250 pounds at Kansas last season.
His work ethic is being questioned by some inside the organization.
And a blowup with assistant strength and conditioning coach James Davis is one of the reasons he was sent home during the team’s recent West Coast road trip.
“He’s boxed up in a big man’s frame,” Brown said. “He is frustrated at times when he isn’t playing. He can’t play. And I just feel like there are a lot of things going against him.”
The Sixers are hoping he sheds the weight and is 100 percent healthy by next season.
I think for Embiid it’s a matter of commitment. With the death of his brother and the injury. It must be frustrating. But in order to play. He must be in shape. He is not Kendrick Perkins.
The boy has potential. Take a page out of Noel’s book. He worked for it. And now he’s in contention for Rookie of the Year like his potential said he would.
