Philadelphia 76ers drafted Joel Embiid with the 6th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft fully aware of Embiid’s injury issues. They weren’t in a position to win right away and it also allowed for fellow young big man Nerlens Noel to have an opportunity to develop without anyone else taking attention away from his progress. It wasn’t exactly a horrible situation for Embiid to be in.
While there was a hangup during the season with Embiid’s recovery from his foot injury, he got right back on track and even looked very good during some pre-game workouts. It was reported that he did gain a lot of weight and had some issues with coaches but he shot those rumors down and kept working.
All signs appeared to be pointing in the right direction, but now Embiid has hit another bump in his recovery.
Following from Yahoo! Sports NBA insider, Adrian Wojnarowski.
Embiid was slated to be involved with the 76ers this summer on their Summer League team but as of right now that might be up in the air. Summer League starts in a little under a month and if this setback is anything serious, we could possibly still wait on the debut of a man who was highly touted coming out of college.
Foot injuries with big men are too numerous to count but if the recent string of issues from Kevin Durant’s injury showed us anything or even if you remember the end of Yao Ming’s career, this might not be good for Embiid.
