Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has produced in a major way despite playing limited minutes. In just 21.4 minutes a night, Embiid is averaging 17.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game. He has also knocked down six of nine three-point attempts this season. That gives him the highest three-point percentage in the NBA. The Sixers are opting to rest Embiid in Wednesday’s game vs. the Pacers in Indiana. Embiid is not happy about taking things slow, reports Jessica Camerato of CSNPhilly:
“That kind of caught me off guard,” Embiid said, later noting, “It’s frustrating, but they care about me. I think it’s going to help me a lot down the road. Whatever how many years I’m going to play – 15, 20 years – it’s really going to help me down the road. They care about me. It’s frustrating, I want to play, but it is what it is.”
Given Embiid’s injury history, it’s very understandable that the 76ers want to ease him in before he plays big minutes. Embiid says that his body is feeling fine:
“I’ve been feeling good,” Embiid said. “My body feels great and the foot feels great. I’m getting back to game shape. Everything is coming along. I think it’s more about recovery, the rest that I’ve got to get. That’s why they made that decision.”
That’s a huge relief to hear. Here’s hoping that Embiid can stay healthy and have a successful career. Cross your fingers.
