Nets General Manager Billy King and team CEO Brett Yormark sent out a letter to season tickets holders that didn’t include Joe Johnson or Deron Williams, the teams two highest paid players.
The New York Post first reported about the letter in which King and Yormark wrote they visited owner Mikhail Prokhorov two weeks ago in Moscow to “discuss the state of the team.”
The letter said that the team has plans to resign center Brook Lopez and Thad Young to “keep the core leadership together.”
They stated they wanted to “build on our emerging young core,” mentioning Mason Plumlee, Bojan Bogdanovic, Markel Brown and Sergey Karasev. They mentioned their two draft picks and “a desire in purchasing another pick.”
The letter did not mention the team’s highest paid players, Johnson or Williams, and what their future with the team is.
King and Yormark said they are dedicating in building a winner for the future, but with few draft picks in the future and a terrible cap situation, that could be challenging.
