The New Orleans Pelicans need to show signs of growth. It is essential to present a team that is not just Anthony Davis. If the Pelicans want to attract free agents, they need a team behind Davis that can help AD win. Not just be injured all the time.
Pelicans ownership are getting impatient with general manager Dell Demps, he’s gotten players in but the Pelicans have taken a step back, they’re not playing like a borderline Playoff team.
Pelicans owner Tom Benson has been taking advice from Saints GM Mickey Loomis and CBS Sports have gotten word that Joe Dumars could be in line to replace Dell Demps.
Saints GM Mickey Loomis has taken on a greater personnel role above GM Dell Demps, but rival execs understand that move is only temporary. “Mickey is a football guy, not a basketball guy,” one exec said. And at the D-League Showcase, the buzz was getting louder that it’s only a matter of time before former Pistons executive Joe Dumars — who has a close relationship with Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson — returns to his native Louisiana to assume control.
Why is Loomis even in this conversation? He’s not exactly blowing people away with his GM skills in recent years. He’s barely cutting it as an NFL GM, let alone having a voice over the Pelicans GM.
And to possibly have Dumars back. I think he’s been in exile long enough. He truly had a tale of two halves when it came to his stint with the Pistons. He was responsible for their Golden years in the 00’s, but he was also responsible for the God awful Pistons a few years back. Surely he’s learnt from his mistakes.
