No one had a more interesting holiday break than former President Donald Trump. According to multiple reports, Trump had dinner with Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and Nick Fuentes. Shortly after the dinner took place, Ye took to Twitter to post a video detailing his recollection of the meeting. The Grammy Award winner said that he asked Trump to join his presidential campaign and claimed that the former President was “really impressed” with Fuentes. The former President’s alleged feelings regarding Fuentes drew criticism from many of his allies and foes due to Fuentes’ lengthy resumé of discriminatory remarks towards various marginalized groups.
“This is a f*cking nightmare,” one longtime Trump adviser told NBC News.
“If people are looking at [Florida Gov. Ron] DeSantis to run against Trump, here’s another reason why.”
The former President pushed back against Ye’s recollection of events. In a post to the right-wing social media platform, Truth Social, Trump called the dinner “uneventful” and claimed that Ye showed up unannounced.
“This past week, Kanye West called me to have dinner at Mar-a-Lago. Shortly thereafter, he unexpectedly showed up with three of his friends, whom I knew nothing about,” Trump stated.
“We had dinner on Tuesday evening with many members present on the back patio. The dinner was quick and uneventful.”
Trump also noted that he offered Ye business and political “advice.” Trump’s post did little to avoid criticism. David Friedman, who served as Trump’s ambassador to Israel, called the meeting “unacceptable.”
“To my friend Donald Trump, you are better than this. Even a social visit from an antisemite like Kanye West and human scum like Nick Fuentes is unacceptable,” Friedman tweeted.
“I urge you to throw those bums out, disavow them and relegate them to the dustbin of history where they belong.”
Trump’s top political foe, President Joe Biden, did comment on the matter. Instead, he told reporters that it was better if the world didn’t know what he thought about the dinner.
“You don’t want to hear what I think,” the President said while vacationing in Massachusetts.
