President Joe Biden has accepted Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s request to deliver the next State of the Union Address on March 1, 2022. According to a report from CNN, Principal Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre shared the news while the President traveled to Colorado on Friday.
“The President has accepted the invitation of the Speaker of the House to deliver the State of the Union address on Tuesday, March 1, 2022,” Jean-Pierre said.
If the date of Biden’s address remains in place, it would be the latest State of the Union Address in America history. Since 1934, all state of the Union Addresses have taken place in January or February. With that said, last year’s joint address to Congress took place on April 28, 2021. During the address, attendance was limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is likely that the same precautions will be taken during this year’s address as well.
