Joakim Noah’s tenure in New York has been nothing short of tumultuous. The Knicks’ center will now be sidelined four-to-six weeks due to an injury to his left rotator cuff which will require surgery. The news was first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical.
Noah has struggled with injuries for years now, including needing knee surgery earlier this year. The rotator cuff has been something that has bothered the big man for years, per Woj.
It must be noted that Noah still has 12 games of a 20-game suspension remaining for violating the NBA’s anti-drug policy earlier in the season. That time must be served once Noah is cleared by doctors, meaning Noah could potentially miss a large chunk of the beginning of next season due to a combination of the injury and his suspension.
Nevertheless, the six-month timetable would clear him just weeks before the beginning of the next season.
Noah signed a four-year $72 million deal in July. That contract has looked more and more like the worst in the NBA by a considerable margin. Noah is unable to stay on the court and when he does play, he is nowhere near the amount of a positive impact he was during his prime with the Bulls.
Perhaps that will change, but with more injuries piling up, it does not seem likely.
