Throughout the season, it looked like the Chicago Bulls had to trade either Derrick Rose or Jimmy Butler. It looked like they didn’t have chemistry together and looked as if the Bulls may be better without one of them. Jimmy Butler appeared on ESPN’s The Jump, and he didn’t seem surprised that Rose was traded:
“I can’t say that I was surprised. But I knew that it had to be one of us, to tell you the truth.”
To be honest, I don’t see why Jimmy said this. I don’t think that one of them had to be traded. Rose is entering his contract year, so the Bulls could have seen how this season played out. Who knows, they could have kept Rose and seen him and Butler turn it around this season. Instead they took the New York Knicks trade, acquiring Robin Lopez and Jerian Grant. It looks like Joakim Noah will depart from Chicago, so acquiring Lopez was nice, but I think they would have been better off keeping Rose.
Tracy McGrady asked Jimmy why he thinks that one of them had to be traded, and Jimmy didn’t have a great answer to that question:
“I have no idea.”
Jimmy has no idea because there is no real reason that one of them needed to be traded.
