Derrick Rose’s time during the Chicago Bulls media day recently took an awkward turn when Rose’s free agency situation, which is about two years away, was brought up.
Rose talked about how he can’t wait to be a free agent and get a payday in 2017, while also staying with the Bulls, and how he’s going to be looking out for his family and he he wants a piece of all the money being handed out.
While that’s all nice and well, it’s still about two years away from happening. If the general public realizes that, you can’t blame his teammate, Jimmy Butler, for wanting to Rose to divert his attention from the what’s too far into the future to even consider a possibility right now.

Butler on Rose’s contract comments: "He can talk about unicorns and rainbows for all I care. Just help us win some basketball games.’’

You can’t blame Jimmy for thinking this way. He just got paid himself over the summer and now his main focus is on winning games and chasing a championship while they have this team together. There’s an aging Pau Gasol and often injured Joakim Noah and Derrick Rose on the starting lineup alongside Butler so for Jimmy, although he’s young, his time is now.
Rose is focusing on something that’s two years away and something that also isn’t promised given Rose’s recent injury issues that just flared up yesterday when he broke his orbital bone in practice. Jimmy Butler needs Rose to focus on winning game because if he doesn’t, there might be some tough times ahead for Chicago.
