Jimmy Butler will represent the Chicago Bulls at the NBA Draft Lottery, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune. The lottery will happen next Wednesday and will determine the order for the 2016 draft.
The Bulls have the 14th worst record in the league as the best team in the lottery. They will have a 1.8% chance of jumping into the top three and a 0.5% chance of getting the number one overall pick, meaning that in all likelihood, Chicago will be picking 14th in the draft.
Chicago also has a slight chance of getting another first round pick if Sacramento’s falls out of the top ten. That would require three teams from the 9-14 range to jump ahead of the Kings so it is obviously a very unlikely scenario.
Perhaps most important from the choice of Butler as the chosen representative of the team is that it shows some loyalty from the organization towards its star player. Management had previously shown no such firm belief that Butler would be the face of the team moving forward and trade rumors have surrounded the all-star all year. Perhaps, it is reading too much into something as simple as the draft lottery representation, but it may also be a crucial sign in determining the future of the Bulls future.
No word yet on whether Jimmy Butler will bring his rearview mirror as a good luck charm.
