Only a few short weeks after news came across that Syracuse University was going to be facing some punishment after they failed to meet NCAA standards and practices, it appears that the bad news keeps coming for Orange fans.
In one quick swift move, the Syracuse athletic director, Daryl Gross and head men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim will both have their tenures in Syracuse ending soon.
Following from CBS Sports Gary Parrish.
Daryl Gross is out as Syracuse’s athletic director, and the school has announced Jim Boeheim will retire as its men’s basketball coach after three more seasons.
This means Boeheim is expected to be gone following the 2017-18 season.
Gross had been Syracuse’s AD since 2005.
His biggest lasting impact will be leading Syracuse’s move to the ACC from the Big East, which brought the athletic department previously unforeseen revenue growth.
Since the 1976-77 season, Boeheim has been the coach at Syracuse and in his time he’s made it to four Final Fours. His most prized achievement was when he won a national championship in 2003 led by Carmelo Anthony, Hakim Warrick and Gerry McNamara. He’s been at the helm for some great teams and saw some fantastic players like Andy Rautins, Etan Thomas, Jonny Flynn, Michael Carter-Williams and Dion Waiters come in thanks in part to his recruiting.
Boeheim’s future with the Orange was up in the air after the NCAA punishment on his program following a lengthy investigation that revealed both major and minor violations including drug testing and academic issues.
