In the midst of the fast moving news cycle of music, Dreamville has been steadily building a strong stable of artists that makes it one of the most formidable crews in rap today. Starting with its leader, J. Cole, Dreamville has put together a strong run of projects over the past two years. Most recently, J. Cole released K.O.D, which caught the eyes and ears of everyone from Pusha T to Lil’ Pump. Before Cole released K.O.D, Cozz released Effected with features from Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole and Curren$y. In the near future, Bas will release his long awaited follow up to Too High To Riot. In the background, Dreamville’s newest artists, J.I.D has been buzzing and building a following of his own.
The Atlanta native released his first project on Cole’s label back in 2017. The Never Story featured the likes of 6lack and Earth Gang. Most importantly, it showed that J.I.D is stylistically and lyrically one of the most promising wordsmiths of his generation. Stringing together fast paced flows in a way that only he can, J.I.D has shown that he is one of the best to come out of Atlanta over the past two years. His hard work and talent earned him a spot on XXL’s 2018 Freshman List and today, he released his freestyle.
In typical, J.I.D fashion, he comes out of the gate swinging and drops quotable lines like, “We don’t let bygones, be bygones. We buy guns and squeeze like a python.” Check out J.I.D’s freshman freestyle above.
