The New York Jets will have a very different coaching staff entering next season. Head coach Todd appears safe, but a number of his assistants were not so lucky. The Jets announced a number of these changes on their website.
For starters offensive coordinator Chan Gailey has retired from coaching. Gailey, 65, had this to say in regards to his retirement.
“I informed Coach Bowles prior to the 2016 season that I would retire after this season,” Gailey said in a statement. “I thought it was best to tell him early, so that he could begin to think about how he would move the team forward on offense. While we did not have the season we all wanted to have, I think there are some great people here at the Jets and in the New York/New Jersey area. I wish them all the best moving forward.”
Gailey was a former head coach for the Bills and Cowboys while also serving coordinator jobs for the Steelers, Broncos, Dolphins, and Chiefs.
Quarterbacks coach Kevin Patullo, running backs coach Marcel Shipp, defensive line coach Pepper Johnson, outside linebackers coach Mark Collins and defensive backs coach Joe Danna were the assistants that have been fired. The Jets will have a busy offseason trying to find replacements for these coaches.
