This past week has been a big one for Toronto native, Jessie Reyez. The Universal Music Group artists began the week with two nominations at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards. While in New York, she had the opportunity to rock the MTV Video Music Award’s stage with a performance of her single, “Apple Juice”. After a long and busy work week, Jessie Reyez has decided to kick off the weekend with remix to her single, “Body Count”, featuring Kehlani and Normani.
The original song and video made a powerful statement about the double standards involving gender and personal sexual history. Much like the original, the remix makes a powerful statement and opens up a conversation about double standards that work against women in regards to sexual freedom. Normani, Kehlani and Jessie Reyez all take their time to speak up and speak out using their indiviual talents and platforms. Given the platforms these artists and the talents they posses, this will definitely be a record you’ll want to listen to, sit with and replay.
