Jerry West, otherwise known as The Logo, recently said on The Jump on ESPN he thinks the NBA should consider changing him from the logo to someone else.
“First of all, I wish it would have never gotten out that I was the logo. It’s flattering that that’s me…If I were the NBA, I’d be embarrassed about it, I really would. I don’t like to do anything to call attention to myself…if they would want to change it, I wish they would.”
When asked about who he thought she become the new logo, Jerry West half-jokingly brought up the commissioner, Adam Silver.
Mr. Clutch played 14 seasons in the NBA, all for the Los Angeles Lakers. In his career, he averaged 27 points, 6.7 assists, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.6 steals (the only season they counted steals was in his last season). He also averaged 20.4 shots per game in his career and shot the ball at a 47.4 clip.
West played in 14 All-Star games, was runner-up for MVP four times, was All-NBA First Team ten times and Second Team twice, and he was named to the All-Defensive First Team five times and the Second Team once. The only record West holds on the Lakers is most Offensive Win Shares after Kobe Bryant passed him in total assists.
Jerry West became the NBA logo in 1969, the same year he won Finals MVP.
