Jerry Stackhouse To Meet With Phil Jackson This Week
Former NBA player Jerry Stackhouse is interested in being the next head coach of the New York Knicks. Stackhouse confirmed in a radio interview that he has a meeting with Knicks president Phil Jackson this week to discuss a possible position in the organization. Even though Stackhouse is unsure if Phil is ready to offer him the job, he expressed his interest in coaching,
I’d love to coach. The pro level is where I think I’d be best. I know what I didn’t want to play against so I think I’m a better defensive coach than an offensive coach.
Stackhouse, an 18-year NBA veteran, last played as a member of the Brooklyn Nets in the 2012-2013 season. We know that Steve Kerr has been reported to be the odds-on favorite for the Knicks head coaching vacancy, but we also know that the Golden State Warriors just fired Mark Jackson and are likely to court Kerr’s services. Perhaps Phil is covering his bases in the likelihood that Kerr is truly set on his preference of coaching a west coast team. Bill Cartwright’s name has also surfaced as a candidate for the Knicks’ staff.
