It’s hard to believe that Jermaine O’neal has been playing in the NBA since 1996, but we all know how time can fly. O’neal has spent the last six seasons jumping from team to team, but still has found some success as a low post presence for some of those teams. In his latest stop in Golden State he showed he had a little bit left in the tank where he averaged nearly 8 PPG and a block per game off the bench. The Golden State Warriors General Manager Bob Meyers has reached out to the veteran big man to gauge his interest in a return to the team, and O’neal still isn’t sure if he wants to return for his 19th season.
The Jermaine O’neal we are all familiar with is certainly a shell of what he once was in his glory days in Indiana, but O’neal has proved one thing he can still play 20-25 mins a game and provide an NBA team with some solid minutes off the bench. If we take a step back and look at O’neal’s career his biggest downfall was injuries mainly his knee problems which we’ve seen hinder his availability a little bit. O’neals choice will obviously come soon with the season only 34 days away, but my guess is he will join a contending team that needs the low post presence such as Chicago, Houston, or The Los Angeles Clippers all of those teams I can make a case for O’neal to join the team. The most likely scenario though seems to be a return to Golden State for one final season.
