Aaron Sorkin has reportedly added EMMY Award winner Jeremy Allen White and Academy Award winner Mikey Madison to the cast of his sequel to The Social Network, but that may not be the last of his splashy signees. Reports suggest Succession star Jeremy Strong is being eyed to play the role of Mark Zuckerberg, previously held by Jesse Eisenberg in the original.
The direction of the sequel isn’t exactly clear, but early reports indicate it will explore “how [Meta’s] own reporting pointed to the negative effects the company’s social media was having on teens and kids, how it knew misinformation was proliferating and causing violence, and how it contributed to the coup attempt of Jan. 6, 2021.”
While Strong plays the role of Zuckerberg, Madison is reportedly being recruited to play Frances Haugen, a data engineer who turned over thousands of Facebook’s internal documents to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and The Wall Street Journal in 2021. Meanwhile, White is expected to play Jeff Horwitz, a former Wall Street Journal reporter who spearheaded “The Facebook Files” editorial series.
