Possibly the best free agent point guard remaining on the market, Jeremy Lin, has elected to take his talents to the Charlotte Hornets and join the Michael Jordan ran franchise.
The former Los Angeles Lakers point guard was tied to a few teams including the Dallas Mavericks who were hoping to pair Lin with DeAndre Jordan but as Jordan’s deal with the Mavs fizzled out, so did the hopes of bringing Lin to Dallas. He will be joining his fifth NBA team in only his sixth NBA season. Lin averaged 11.2 points per game and 4.6 assists per game in 74 games with Los Angeles last season.
His value is up and down based on the system he’s in and the system with the Hornets will be different this year with the addition of a couple new players in Nicolas Batum and Frank Kaminsky. The thing is, how does Lin fit with coach Steve Clifford’s system? The Hornets aren’t known to play fast, they don’t use many pick and roll plays and they’re very defensive oriented. Jeremy Lin plays fast, attacks off the pick and roll and isn’t really defensive-minded, so it doesn’t make sense on the surface. Sure, Lin is a solid backup point guard but his strengths don’t necessarily fit with Clifford’s style over the last few seasons.
He will be joining the Hornets on a 2-year deal worth over $4 million, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports and he made the announcement on his Instagram account.
