The North Carolina Tar Heels got some surprising news with the announcement that freshman point guard Jeremiah Francis would be transferring from the program. He will have three years of college eligibility left after he sits for one year. There have been some serious injury problems for the point guard and he could probably use the year to sit and get ready for three solid years of basketball. This will affect North Carolina’s depth, but it does free up another scholarship. There are few prospects left, so it may be difficult to fill this year.
North Carolina’s Jeremiah Francis will transfer, he told @Stockrisers over the phone this morning. The freshman guard showed flashes this season, when given opportunity.
I expect no shortage of suitors here.

Francis should have his pick of schools that want his services for three years. He showed some major flashes in his 16 games with the Tar Heels. His statistics don’t really highlight what he could be when fully healthy. His short freshman campaign with North Carolina had him average 3.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. He really showed some of his true ability while Cole Anthony was hurt mid-season. His field goal percentage was 22.7 percent while his three-point percentage was 20 percent. Those numbers will need to come up at his next school.
North Carolina could land 2020 four-star guard Kerwin Walton on Saturday, but that would fill the Brandon Huffman scholarship. There aren’t many options outside of the program left to fill that spot. It isn’t impossible for a graduate transfer to head to the Tar Heels. but it doesn’t seem likely right now. Francis will be looking to find a new school over the next couple of weeks and the list could be a long one.
