The Detroit Pistons at 3-10 to start off the season have been a disappointment yet again even if they still do have 69 games left in the season. They’re close to having the worst field goal percentage in the league and Brandon Jennings has a solution for that. Shoot the ball in practice? Seems like a simple suggestion, but what team doesn’t shoot in practice? According to Jennings his doesn’t.
Here’s a quote from David Mayo of MLlive:
If you ask the question about why we’re not making shots, we don’t shoot,” Jennings said after Friday’s 99-89 loss to the Atlanta Hawks. “We don’t shoot in practice. We haven’t really had a chance to work on our games or anything. When we do have shootarounds, we’re not able to get up shots like we should.” …
I just think if you’re going to have shootaround in the morning, I think it’s good that you get loose and you should work on shots that you’re going to take in the game,” he said. “Even before, after practice, we’ve got to start getting in the gym, just working on our game more.
If this doesn’t scream to Stan Van Gundy as a suggestion from his players I don’t know what will. The Pistons tried to counter their shooting woes from last season by signing former Philadelphia 76er and Lakers shooting guard Jodie Meeks who has yet to play this season due to a lower back injury. The Piston’s not only have Josh Smith but Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Andre Drummond shooting under 40% this season. If the shots you’re not getting up in practice are bothering you that much Brandon why not put up some extra shots after practice or before?
We will see if this cry for help from Jennings will get to Head Coach Stan Van Gundy or not.
