Superhero shows are the new black.
FOX has its Gotham; The CW has the Arrow and The Flash; And soon the CBS will have its Supergirl. For the first time since the classic 1984 movie, Kara Danvers a.k.a. Kara Zor-El will steal the spotlight back from her superhero cousin in a brand new TV series.
The show stars Mehcad Brooks, Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan and Jenna Dewan Tatum as Lucy Lane, Louis Lane’s younger sister.
We all know that Lois Lane is Superman’s forever love, but interestingly enough, Lucy will have her own back story.
Lucy has been previously described as “strong, smart and successful in her own right. She’s got a history with Jimmy Olson and she’s come to town to right a previous wrong.”
Tatum will join the series in a recurring role several episodes into the show’s debut season this fall.
While in the comics, Lucy Lane does eventually become Superwoman thanks to a mystical suit, her character will be a bit more down to earth on the series (at least for now). Executive producer Ali Adler teased what is in store for the younger Lane:
“We hope to explore the history that Lucy has with James Olsen — or, as Lucy knows him, Jimmy Olsen. I think we’re going to bring in her father. She not only plays a romantic foil with whatever Kara and James are brewing, but people will also be surprised that she’s really a woman’s woman. She and Kara develop their own friendship, too. We’re not just bringing her in to purposefully create tension. She serves a larger story drive.”
Supergirl premieres October 26th at 8:30 p.m. on CBS. It will air at 8 p.m. on Mondays thereafter.
