Jurassic World took the world by storm when it landed back in 2015. It ruled the summer box office for weeks and reignited interest in a long-dormant franchise. Last year’s sequel, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom didn’t fare quite as well with a middling critical and commercial reception. However, Colin Trevorrow, director of the first film, is set to return to the helm for Jurassic World 3. And he’s not the only familiar face returning.
Trevorrow recently revealed that Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill are set to reprise their roles from the original Jurassic Park film. The film’s Instagram celebrated the casting, posting a message welcoming Alan Grant (Neill), Ellie Sattler (Dern) & Ian Malcolm (Goldblum) to Jurassic World.
Not much is known about the plot of the next film. However, Trevorrow did speak with EW about the threequel shortly after the release of Fallen Kingdom. Jurrasic World 3 “will be focused storytelling with dinosaurs all over the world. We really wanted this technology, this genetic power, to go open-source at the end of the film. What we’re suggesting is not just that these specific animals that we care about that were in captivity were freed, but also that the ability to create these animals has gone a little bit wider than our friend Dr. Wu. The open-sourcing of any technology, like nuclear power, that’s the scary side for me.”
To help tide fans over until the third Jurassic World hits, Trevorrow released a short film set a year after Fallen Kingdom. With dinosaurs now living amongst us, things were sure to go south and they do just that in Battle at Big Rock. Check it out below:
Jurassic World 3 is set to hit theaters on June 11th, 2021.
