Former NBA player Jeff Adrien was arrested last year after stealing a car from a hotel valet stand. He took the Mercedes for a 6 hour joy ride, before returning the car back to the hotel. While Adrien has said that the entire situation was a whole misunderstanding, he has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanour use of an unauthorized vehicle. According to TMZ, who broke the story earlier:
The REAL owner says Adrien damaged the car and police were called. He was charged with felony grand theft auto. Adrien claimed it was all one big misunderstanding.
Now, we’ve learned Adrien struck a plea deal with prosecutors, pleading no contest to misdemeanor unauthorized use of a vehicle — and got 25 days community labor.
Well Adrien got off easy for a grand theft auto felony charge, but this should be a good lesson for any NBA player who tries that or anything like that. There’s no telling if we’ll be seeing Adrien back in the NBA, but teams will be asking him about the situation if they do want to sign him.
