The Lakers are currently in the middle of one of the roughest periods in franchise history. They are going to miss the playoffs for the 3rd consecutive season, which has never happened before. Luckily there is plenty of hope for the future currently on the roster. D’Angelo Russell, Brandon Ingram, and Julius Randle all have potential to be All-Stars at some point in their respective careers. That occurring next year when Staples Center hosts the All-Star game would be highly unlikely, however.
Jeanie Buss spoke about that possibility on a podcast with Forbes Sports Money;
“Next season Los Angeles is hosting the NBA All-Star game at Staples Center and I’m concerned we won’t have an All-Star on the team,
“That would break my heart.”
The player with the best chance to keep Jeanie Buss’ heart intact would probably be Julius Randle. He is currently the best player on the team and posting a respectable 13.1 points per game, 8.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists on 48% shooting. He will be 23 next season and it would be shocking to no one if he took another leap in his 3rd full season in the NBA. The likelihood of it turning into All-Star play is low but it may be Jeanie’s best chance.
