So it seems that us talking about the Rockets have given them the ‘underdog complex’. With us talking about Dwight Howard (once again in a negative fashion) and with all the trade rumours milling around, the Rockets have decided to use it as motivation.
As if we’re trying to break them up because they’re doing so well.
Unfortunately, they’re not the Warriors or the Spurs, but nevertheless they’ve given themselves some motivation according to interim head coach JB Bickerstaff.
“We’re thankful that the noise came out because it brought our group together,” Bickerstaff said. “No one on the inside said those things that were supposedly said. No one on the inside started the rumors or sparked those flames. We’ve been consistent in our message that it’s only about the … group of guys we have here.
“One of your brothers is attacked or (subject of) false rumors, you stand up for him. If you are on the court, someone knocks your teammate down, you go pick him up. Right now, our guys are lifting each other up. They could have jumped on the bandwagon of rumors. They didn’t. I think it’s great.”
One of those teammates that have been lifting spirits has been Corey Brewer, who has also been involved in trade rumours.
“You just laugh,” forward Corey Brewer said. “It was easy to blow it off. C’mon. Everybody knows Dwight is not unhappy. He comes in here every day smiling. He’s joking around. Him and James (Harden), I don’t see any animosity. We’re just like, “Whatever.’ We didn’t pay any attention. We’re trying to win games.”
I’ll take his word for it. I think he knows more than a couple of sources that ignited Dwight’s apparent sadness to be on the Rockets team.
