One of the most underrated aspects of the NBA off-season that gets overshadowed by free agency is the NBA Summer League. Over the years, the Summer League has been host to all the incoming rookies and players trying to make their way onto an NBA roster. However, the Utah Jazz, who will be hosting the Utah Summer League, are taking a different approach with one of their roster spots.
The curious approach is implementing Dante Exum, who will be entering his fourth season, as head of their Summer League team. Although Exum will be in his fourth season, he missed an entire season due to injury in 2015-16 and is only 21-years of age.
Following from Associated Press.
“He’s not the young guy anymore,” Utah Jazz Summer League coach Alex Jensen said. “It’s time. You’ve got to stand out.
“I don’t think it’s any one thing. When you watch the game, he can’t blend in. You’re too talented and too good to blend in, because a lot of guys are in their first and second year.”
Exum said he wasn’t planning to play summer league after the season ended, but the team would like to see more from him going into his fourth year.
While his age may be deceiving, Exum has more than enough time to prove his worth for the Jazz and a big Summer League could cement his spot on their roster.
