
The Utah Jazz started their much anticipated 2016-17 campaign facing some big injury issues. Gordon Hayward started the season on the shelf, Derrick Favors battled an injury early on and now one of their guards is battling an injury of his own.
Alec Burks, the swingman out of Colorado University, was forced to miss a big chunk of last season due to an injury. Now his 2016-17 season will most like also see the same fate after he underwent ankle surgery on Tuesday. It’s his second ankle surgery this year.
The Jazz made the announcement on Tuesday evening.
The following is a medical update on Utah Jazz guard Alec Burks:
Following multiple medical consultations, Burks underwent a successful arthroscopic procedure Tuesday to debride his left ankle. The procedure was performed in New York City by foot and ankle specialist Dr. Martin O’Malley.
Burks will return to Salt Lake City to begin his rehabilitation and will remain out indefinitely. Further updates will be provided when appropriate.
The sixth-year guard averaged 13.3 points on a career-best 40.5 percent three-point shooting, with 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 25.7 minutes per game during the 2015-16 season. He was originally selected by the Jazz with the 12th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.
