Ella Mai’s “Boo’d Up” is quickly rising as the early favorite to be the song of the summer, but East Atlanta’s Jaye Newton might have something to say about that. Following the release of his latest project, Sunroof Season, Jaye Newton has released the visuals for one of the project’s standout tracks, “Summer Nights”. Perfect for the Memorial Day Weekend, the record and video have a heartfelt meaning that is perfect for the summer scene.
The four minute track has a laid back bounce that is perfect for cookout and sundress season. On the hook, Newton raps, “Summer nights with my window down/Come and ride with me/Baby, we can get away/You know it’s cool with me.” Newton follows up the hook with more laid back, summer bars in the first two verses by rapping, “I’ve been up all night/I do not sleep/Peace of my mind is the one thing that I keep/I shoot my shot, I score and then I sweep/TLC, you know I creep.”
The video itself has more of an intentional meaning than its laid back feel. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Newton revealed that the video was a reenactment of his first date with his longtime girlfriend. During the video, the couple run around the city at carnivals, cruising through the city and having an all around good time. In the end, Newton proposes to his now fiance. Congratulations to the two and make sure you check out the video above.
