Last week, Jay-Z dedicated “The Story of OJ” to Colin Kaepernick at the Meadows Music and Arts Festival. Now, it is reported Jay-Z has turned down an offer to perform at the 2018 Super Bowl halftime. NFL representatives approached the 47-year-old rapper about performing and he reportedly declined.
“Lots of people have been saying Jay will perform with Justin Timberlake, but it is simply not the case,” according to an anonymous source quoted by two separate sources.
“He has enough songs to create an incredible performance but he really has no plans to do the half-time show,” the source said. While there have been rumors of Britney Spears performing, no artist has been confirmed for the halftime show. In August, it was believed Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake would perform together.
Beyoncé has performed at the Super Bowl in 2013 and 2016. Both events were memorable because Beyoncé, but also due to the power outage in 2013 and the powerful imagery in 2016.
It seems that Jay-Z won’t be following in his wife’s footsteps as a Super Bowl halftime act. The NFL will have a short list to work with, if they want to match or top Lady Gaga’s performance last year.
