
Jay-Z opened the 43rd season of Saturday Night Live with a statement.

Jay-Z wore a black Colin Kaepernick jersey while performing “Bam” with Damian Marley. Last month, it was reported that Jay-Z turned down the 2018 Super Bowl halftime performance. Speculation grew about why Jay-Z will not be at the Super Bowl: did it have to do with Kaepernick’s protest and him being blackballed by the NFL?
On “Saturday Night Live,” Jay-Z showed solidarity with Kaepernick by donning his jersey. Without saying anything, Jay-Z showed an audience of millions he stood with Kaepernick. Throughout the performance, Jay-Z turned his back to the camera, showing “Colin K” on the nameplate.
This makes the second time Jigga has announced or displayed his support of Kaepernick. During his performance at the Meadows Music and Arts Festival, Jay-Z dedicated “The Story of O.J.” to Kaepernick and Dick Gregory.
Both Jay-Z and Kaepernick have used their platforms for helping those in need. Kaepernick is working with J. Cole’s Dreamville Foundation as part of his $1 million pledge to various organizations and charities. Kaepernick has also donated supplies to Somalia and given suits to ex-offenders.
