Jay honors the fallen frontman with a performance of “Numb/Encore”.
Jay-Z took the stage at Virgin’s V Festival this weekend in the U.K. The Brooklyn emcee made the festival his only stop in the U.K. for this year. While his 4:44 tour is set to start this fall, festival goers got to see his 4:44 material live before the tour starts. During his performance, Jay also paid tribute to the late Chester Bennington of Linkin Park.
While turning his performance into a tribute for the frontman, Jay asked to dim the lights down before his tribute. “Can you guys light it up tonight for Chester from Linkin Park one time? Please make some noise so he can hear you all the way in heaven tonight.” Carter asked the audience. Afterwards, he started his performance of “Numb/Encore”, making it the first time in a while that song has been featured in his concert set.
Throughout Jay’s performance, the crowd sang most of the song, leaving only the rapper to be a hype man. Check out footage from Jay-Z’s tribute below.
