JAY-Z became Hip-Hop’s first billionaire last week. The rapper and mogul’s milestone was announced by Forbes on June 3.
Today, Forbes has revealed their richest rappers 2019 list. Referred to as Hip-Hop’s next billionaires, Drake, Kanye West, Diddy, and Dr. Dre join Hov on the list.
Drake, the youngest of the bunch, places at number five with $150 million. The Canada native’s “fortune grew 50% over the past year, boosted by holdings ranging from real estate to his Virginia Black whiskey.” His earnings also come from his tour and new residency at the XS Nightclub in Las Vegas.
Kanye West debuts at number four with $240 million. His placement is due to “Adidas, which lured West and his Yeezy shoe line from Nike several years ago.”
Diddy comes in at third with $740 million, thanks to his cable network Revolt and clothing line Sean John. Ciroc however, is the “main driver” of Diddy’s wealth.
Dr. Dre trails behind JAY-Z with a whopping $800 million. The “superproducer’s” earnings come from “his landmark Apple deal–along with income from his extensive back catalogue.”
Lastly, number one on the list is, of course, JAY-Z, with $1 billion. The first in Hip-Hop to ever do it, Roc Nation Sports has become the driving factor to his fortune.
