It is the job of a music journalist to convert the emotion, production and feel of a track, EP or album into complete, coherent sentences. However, it’s often difficult to do so when something feels different, yet familiar at the same time. In many ways, that’s the best way to describe Jay Safari. His sound feels reminiscent of a 2000s Neptunes vibe. At the same time, he feels like a piece of Brockhampton or Tyler, The Creator today. With all of that going on, he still manages to find a way to express himself in a way that comes off as unique and original to him. That sounds like a lot to say about an artist that many people may not have heard of, but you’ll have a chance to change that today.
Jay Safari has followed up his night lounge “Dance” video with the visuals for “Made Up.” Driving in a completely different direction, the “Made Up” video finds Jay Safari switching between several different scenes. At one moment, he’s wearing a Black bucket hat and white tank top as he stands in front of a fisheye lens. A few seconds later, he may be running through the streets at night in a white collared shirt with a Black tie as he carries a briefcase. Coming from the minds of the aforementioned rising star and Evan Turpin, this visual sums up the sounds and vibes of Jay Safari — creatively chaotic. The listener never knows what he’ll do or sound like next, but that’s what makes him intriguing. Check out the “Made Up” video below.
