The Wofford Terriers have announced that Head Coach Jay McAuley has resigned from the position in a shocking move. He had been on a forced leave of absence from the program since early December. This came after several players went to the Wofford administration and informed them that they did not want to play for him anymore. Complaints of practicing too much and him being too tough on them were made to the university’s administration. Assistant Coach Dwight Perry has been serving as the interim Head Coach for the basketball program.
Players had complained about McAuley practicing too much, per source, and being too tough on them, but this seems like a case of veteran players utilizing their power to get rid of coach.

Jay McAuley was in his fourth season as the Head Coach of the program. In those seasons he led the team to an overall record of 61-42 and a Southern Conference record of 30-23. His lone postseason appearance with the program was last year in the 2022 TBC. He also won the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award last season. The program is currently 8-6 overall and 0-1 in the Southern Conference.
This is a weird situation considering the lack of abuse allegations, but the program did seem ready to move on from the Head Coach. They will finish the season and then address their coaching vacancy in the offseason.
