Yes, you read that headline correctly. The Man child himself, JaVale McGee would like to become the mentors of promising young big men Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid.
After being traded from the Nuggets to the Sixers at the trade deadline, speculation was that Philadelphia would buy out the athletic big man. That isn’t the case however, as the Sixers plan on keeping McGee, at least for this season, and McGee is pretty happy about that.
“I don’t want to get bought out,” said McGee. “That’s not a positive thing. When you think about it, you don’t get all of your money when you get bought out.”
He would continue to say:
“It doesn’t make sense why someone would want to get bought out unless they are older and they want to go to a contender or something. I’m not that old. I just want to play basketball.”
McGee also said that he can relate to Joel Embiid and Nerlens Noel and can help them with their adjustment to the NBA.
“When I was with the Wizards, I think it was my sophomore year, we won like 19 games,” he said. “So I’ve been in the same situation. I’ve just definitely got to get these young guys (Embiid and Noel)’ heads into it where they stay positive, keep playing hard, just look for wins and (learn) how to win.”
My knowledge on JaVale’s leadership is very thin, but if he can teach them his athleticism then those two will be a scary duo. Talent on the other hand and basketball IQ, not sure JaVale McGee is the right person for that.
All eyes will be watching.
