In four professional seasons, Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Jason Verrett has shown flashes of being a high-quality, starting-caliber defensive back. Unfortunately, flashes are all been able to show. In those four seasons, Verrett has already had three different stints on the Injured Reserve. And unless the initial tests misdiagnosed Verrett’s most recent injury, you might as well write it in ink: Verrett will spend the whole 2018 season on IR as well.
More on the awful injury for #Chargers CB Jason Verrett: Sources say the belief is he suffered a torn Achilles during the conditioning test. This would knock him out for another season. And for LAC, he joins Hunter Henry (ACL) among freak injuries.

The 27-year-old corner has only played in 25 career games. In those contests, though, he’s had an impact. In 2014, his best and healthiest season, Verrett intercepted three passes (one returned for a touchdown) and defended 12 more. In addition to pitching in 42 tackles and five assists.
On the whole, Jason Verrett has five interceptions, 19 passes defended, 72 tackles, and eight assists.
During the 2014 NFL Draft, Verrett was taken with the 25th overall pick in the first round by the then-San Diego Chargers. When healthy, the Chargers can make the case of having the league’s best defensive backfield. However, this injury is quite the setback if that title was the goal.
In general, the Chargers are a bit of an underdog pick to win the AFC West this season. What was once widely credited as being the NFL’s most competitive, L.A. might be set up to take advantage of the weakened division, Verrett injury notwithstanding. Desmond King and/or Trevor Williams look to become Verrett’s replacement, at least of the defensive backs on L.A.’s roster as things stand right now.
