It’s rare to see a starter, a guy who has been with one team for over 7 seasons to be ready to get out of the team who has shown him so much loyalty over the years but, for Jason Thompson, it appears he wants out of the Sacramento Kings.
When the Kings traded for Rudy Gay and Derrick Williams last season, as well as acquiring Reggie Evans, Carl Landry and Ryan Hollins over the last 2 seasons, it immediately saw Thompson getting a decrease in minutes.
The 28-year old Thompson seems to be fed up with the way the team is going, especially with him being a part of teams that have not achieved more than 30 wins once in his time with the franchise.
The changes continue to come in Sacramento, first they get a new coach and now they might be moving some players.
From Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports.
The camp for Jason Thompson, the longest-tenured Kings player, would prefer that he is traded before the deadline, a source said.
Understandable why Thompson would be frustrated but it may be hard to move Thompson out of Sac-Town.
The 28-year-old big man
Thompson has steadily declined in nearly all major statistical category in the last few years and he’s only getting older. It’s hard to see a team trading for Thompson, who is owed $6,431,250 next season, has $2.65 million of his $6,825,000 salary guaranteed next season and has a five percent trade kicker to boot on top of that.
There might be a team that would be willing to acquire Thompson who needs some inside depth and will be willing to keep him on the team for additional year or 2 because he can produce when called upon.
