Houston Rockets guard Jason Terry has been mulling over the option of retirement. The 16-year veteran is a free agent this summer and it is a very real possibility that he does not get many desirable contract offers.
As a result of this knowledge, Terry has interviewed for the open head coach position at UAB. The 38 year old spoke to reporters about his decision to take a look at post-playing career options:
“In this business, you have to plan for your post-career,” he said. “This is no different, being prepared. You always have to be prepared. Would I like to play a couple more years? Yes. But I have to leave my options open. And if this offer is better than what I have on the horizon, then I’m going to have to jump head-first in it. There is some longevity in it, and it is my passion.”
Terry seems to be very interested in coaching after his playing career is over. At the very least, he is putting his name out there as a potential future coach and as he says, if he is able to get a great offer from UAB, he could certainly step away from playing in order to take his talents to the sidelines in college basketball.
