The NBA has suspended Milwaukee Bucks head coach Jason Kidd for one game as a result of an altercation with an official. In the closing minutes of Wednesday night’s loss to the Sacramento Kings, Kidd lost his patience and in a fit of anger not exactly fitting the holiday spirit, the coach yelled at an official before violently slapping the ball away from him.
Kidd was immediately given a technical and ejected from the game. Now, a more sever punishment has been handed down by the NBA. In a statement given by the league on Friday, it was announced that Kidd would be suspended for the Bucks’ game against the Orlando Magic. It can be argued that Kidd actually got away with an easy punishment. The NBA tends to protect its officials quite strictly and Kidd’s outburst was one of the more violent cases of a coach losing his cool in recent memory. Nevertheless, the league office has assessed that Kidd only deserved a one-game suspension for this and the coach, as well as the Bucks, should feel happy that that is the case.
