Jared Sullinger found himself a new home in free agency. The former Celtics power forward signed with the Toronto Raptors. Sullinger now gets the opportunity to start fresh on a new team poised to go deep into the postseason once again.
That winning potential is indeed what took Sullinger to Toronto. In his introductory press conference, the big man spoke about the reason he chose the Raptors. (h/t Doug Smith of The Toronto Star)
“Money is great but when it comes to certain situations, money can’t buy you happiness,” Sullinger said at a splashy news conference to announce his Toronto arrival. “I think winning keeps you happy when you’re playing an 82-game season. I’ve been through a season where we lost a lot and it’s not a lot of fun.
“It was a no-brainer.”
Sullinger is young and has plenty of time to win a championship. However, the fact that he wanted to be a big part of a winning team shows a good mentality.
Clearly, Sullinger had more suitors out there. But the lure of playing for a winning team trumped whatever pay raise he could have received elsewhere. Now, Jared Sullinger must get ready to make big contributions in order to help this Raptors team fulfill its potential.
