NFL Network’s Ian Rapport reports, former Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans tight end Jared Cook, has agreed to sign a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers worth $3.6 million.
Cook saw his numbers drop in 2015 after coming off one his more impressive seasons in 2014, where he totaled 52 receptions and over 600 yards receiving. One particular part of Cook’s game that is attractive to other teams is availability. He has played a full 16 game schedule for the past three season’s and due to the fact that Packers have dealt with a countless number of injuries the past two seasons, this accusation was a no brainer.
Even though the Packers current tight end Richard Rodgers, is coming off one his best seasons since entering the league in 2014, Green Bay wasn’t going to let another year slide without adding an offensive weapon in free agency. Cook and Rodgers now become a tight end duo for Aaron Rodgers, who is coming off a less than impressive 2015 season, by his standards.
The Packers saw an extreme drop off in offensive production in the 2015 season, as they dropped out of the top ten in offensive yards per game for the first time since 2012. And the fact that Pro Bowl wide receiver Jordy Nelson sat out the entire 2015 season due to an ACL injury during preseason. With Richard Rodgers, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb all returning to Green Bay for another year with adding Jared Cook into the mix, McCarthy’s high powered offense could be taking steps forward in 2016.
