The United States Senate confirmed Janet Yellen as the next United States Treasury Secretary on Monday. Yellen is confirmed one week after the Senate Finance Committee unanimously approved her nomination. More recently, she was approved by the United States Senate by a vote of 84-15. All fifteen objections were raised by Republicans in the Senate.
“The bipartisan support for Ms. Yellen’s multiple nominations reflects her breathtaking range of experience and just how well suited she is to manage the economic challenges of our time,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer told The Hill.

“I expect we will have no shortage of spirited policy discussions with Dr. Yellen in the months ahead, especially if some Democrats keep trying to use this historic emergency as a pretext to push through permanent far-left policy changes,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell added.
She follows in the footsteps of President Joe Biden’s first two nominees to be confirmed. Avril Haines was confirmed as the Director of Intelligence earlier this month. Most recently, Lloyd Austin was confirmed as the Defense Secretary. He is the first Black man to serve in this role.
